Taeyeon And Tiffany Once Did A Cover Performance That Audiences Considered Too Sexy

Taeny were on fire that night.

Taeyeon and Tiffany of Girl’s Generation have a strong friendship that carries over into their performances. Fans affectionately refer to the pair as “Taeny” to represent how close they are.

Girl’s Generation is a group that is generally known for both cute concepts and also rebellious girl-crush concepts but rarely sexy concepts. Despite how innocuous the group often was, they received criticism for their debut song “Into the New World” which showed off their midriffs and legs.

This was reflective of the time of their debut, Korea is traditionally a very conservative country and was only starting to break out of this image in 2008. This wasn’t the only time Girl’s Generation members would receive criticism for being “too sexy” however.

During Girl’s Generation’s second Asia tour in 2011, Tiffany and Taeyeon performed a cover of “Lady Marmalade” originally by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya and Pink. Tiffany came out on stage first in an outfit many thought was slightly risque.

But it was Taeyeon’s confident outfit that exposed her midriff and thighs that fans were especially critical of.

But the public backlash didn’t affect Tiffany and Taeyeon because they repeated their performance with Baek A Yeon on an episode of K-Pop Star in 2012.

Korea has changed a lot since then and sexier, more confident performances are now accepted by the public for the most part. You can watch the full 2011 performance below:
