When it comes to NCT 127‘s Jaehyun, there’s nothing he can’t do. He’s a quadruple threat who can sing the sweetest notes, dance the toughest moves, deliver a cool rap, and serve visuals as one of the most handsome idols out there.
In one of his many recent interviews, he revealed some insight into those sharp dance moves.
Jaehyun doesn’t cut any corners when dancing, making sure his moves are clean and fluid. In particular, there are two areas he focuses on thanks to the advice from a professional. That professional turned out to be one of his most cherished family members.
Since “Kick It” name-dropped Bruce Lee in the lyrics, Jaehyun was asked if there was someone in his life who he viewed as a hero. He chose his eighty-year-old grandmother.
Although she recently retired, she’d been working as a dancer for many years. With that much experience, she teaches Jaehyun a few things.
She watches every single broadcast Jaehyun appears in, monitoring his performance with the trained eye of a dancer. Afterward, she doesn’t hold back her thoughts, sending him a long message full of feedback on how he did and tips to improve.
Jaehyun pointed out that every so often, she tends to correct the positioning of his fingers and neck when he’s dancing.
If you look closely at the way his fingers move at different parts of the “Kick It” choreography, you can see the little changes he’s made to make the choreography look more sharp and impactful.
In addition to helping Jaehyun improve his dancing, she also does what all older people do. Having enjoyed a long life of her own, she gives him advice on the mindset he should have to live his life to the fullest.
If you’ve ever wondered what the secret behind Jaehyun’s dancing was, part of it is thanks to the experience of his dear grandmother, whose advice is the most important to him.
Jaehyun: -cont- Since my grandmother is a dancer, there are times when she corrects my fingertips and neckline when I dance, but mostly, she tells me what kind of mindset I should have when it comes to living my life.
