BLACKPINK‘s Rosé had a strong passion for music ever since she was a young girl. Fans saw old footage of hers for the first time through their documentary BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky.
Her earliest video was a special “pajama news”, showing how she was already comfortable with the camera ever since she was young.
She was great at playing the piano…
…and of course, she always had her trusty guitar.
Even as a child, she already lived a semi-public musical life: “I went to church every Sunday and I had a lot of Korean friends there. But then at school, I was just like a normal student kid. And I think I enjoyed having two lives, kinda like Hannah Montana. It’s funny.”
Rosé had no idea that she would end up becoming a K-Pop idol. It was her father who pushed her to audition for YG Entertainment despite her hesitations.
My dad saw on the news that YG was coming to Australia. He was like, ‘Rosie, do you want to audition?’ and I was so shocked. I think I asked him, ‘Do I like music? Do I?’
After receiving a special piece of advice from him, Rosé was sold: “He said, ‘Yeah, obviously. You’re going to have to try to do something about it, otherwise you’re going to be 25, and you’re going to regret that you didn’t do anything.'”
She sang Jason Mraz‘s “I Won’t Give Up” perfectly. To her surprise, she was the only trainee accepted in the 2012 Sydney audition group!
