SBS, MBC, CJ E&M, JTBC to halt people in South Korea from streaming videos on Youtube

SBS, MBC, CJ E&M, and JTBC plan to halt people in South Korea to access their video content on YouTube.

Sad news for K-pop fans who reside in South Korea who consume their content online! Starting Monday, December 1st, CJ E&M, SBS and MBC will be blocking people in South Korean territory from watching their official videos through the major global entertainment medium. JTBC, however, will begin on Monday, December 8th. However, viewers from the rest of the world will still be able to access their content on YouTube.

This movement by Korean media aims to counter YouTube’s increasing global dominance over the Internet. Instead, for South Koreans, the major companies will place their videos on domestic sites Naver and DaumKakao as a way of supporting Korean streaming video sites. However, these companies will not be the only Korean companies pulling away from YouTube as other major media companies also plan to follow suit.

All four companies write a similar message in their recent videos: notifying viewers of the date of termination and thanking them of watching the contents.
