Fans Refuse To Believe Woollim Entertainment’s Claim They’ve Never Seen GOT7’s Album Before

“Nah they copied.”

Woollim Entertainment was recently accused of plagiarizing GOT7’s album concept for Golden Child.

Woollim Entertainment Accused Of Plagiarizing GOT7’s Entire Album Concept For Golden Child

The creative director of Woollim Entertainment has uploaded a post in response to the situation claiming that there was no intention to copy another group’s concept, let alone a famous one like GOT7.

“However, copying an album that has been released less than 2 years ago in the same country and launching the album with the same concept is impossible, more so for the album of a famous group. In addition, Golden Child’s album was titled their fandom’s name and that much more effort and consideration was put into the making of this album.” ㅡ Creative Director of Woollim Entertainment

Moreover, he explained that Golden Child’s concepts have been planned from before their debut and the recent single album was also simply executed according to plan.

“Golden Child had a storytelling concept called ‘Geumdong Highschool Trilogy’ since before their debut. The first was called ‘Geumdong Highschool Baseball Club’, the second ‘Geumdong Highschool First Love’ and the third ‘Geumdong Highschool Graduation Trip’. The filming for the recent single album took place in Japan according to the concept of ‘graduation trip’ as planned from the very beginning.” ㅡ Creative Director of Woollim Entertainment

Despite the response from Woollim Entertainment, some fans refuse to believe that they’ve never seen GOT7’s album before.

  • “One or two elements being similar is understandable, but literally every part of that album is the same as G7’s… The luggage album cover and the CD’s compass design are just too similar to be a coincidence.”
  • “Still.. can’t deny it’s so similar to the got7 album”
  • “Nah they copied”
  • “They didn’t even try to be subtle LOL. It looks like a complete knockoff.”
  • “The thing that still makes me a bit eeeh is the CD compass because it’s honestly not something that easily come to mind when thinking about a post-graduation trip…
Also do they have a member called JB? (I see a sticker that says so) because that would be hilarious rn lol”

Other fans have refused to accept the statement, demanding another statement from Woollim Entertainment directed at GOT7 fans, as the one they issued was posted on Golden Child’s fan page.

Here’s the full statement by Woollim Entertainment’s creative director.

“Hello. This is the creative director of Woollim Entertainment.

First of all, I apologize for causing concern and for not being able to deliver a quick response in regard to this matter. I have done my best to respect all the fans and create good albums. I am writing this statement to explain the production process and resolve your concerns and questions.

First of all, Golden Child had a storytelling concept called ‘Geumdong Highschool Trilogy’ since before their debut. The first was called ‘Geumdong Highschool Baseball Club’, the second ‘Geumdong Highschool First Love’ and the third ‘Geumdong Highschool Graduation Trip’.

This theme was a set format since before their debut and therefore, the first mini album dealt with a baseball club concept and the second mini album a uniform and student concept. The filming for the recent single album took place in Japan according to the concept of ‘graduation trip’, also as planned from the very beginning.

We selected a carrier album design so that fans can easily recall the theme of ‘graduation trip’ and added the stickers and travel tickets to enhance the fun element of the album as only decorating the carrier with stickers seemed unoriginal. For the CD design, we used a compass to match the theme of travel.

Because this was planned from a long time ago, when the posts comparing our album to other artists’ albums began appearing on online communities after pre-sales began, I was also surprised to see the similarities. I believe that it is an issue that could have upset fans. Moreover, I am deeply apologetic for this issue.

However, copying an album that has been released less than 2 years ago in the same country and launching the album with the same concept is impossible, more so for the album of a famous group. In addition, Golden Child’s album was titled their fandom’s name and that much more effort and consideration was put into the making of this album.

I am very sad and upset about this issue as I have done my best to produce the greatest album for fans who continue to support our artists.

Golden Child incorporates the group’s concept and identity into all their merchandise including their albums. Copying the concept of another artist is an act of ruining the identity of Golden Child and therefore, it is unthinkable.

Finally, I’ve attached the images of foreign designs that were used for the proposal of Golden Child’s recent single album so that you can better understand the production process.

I will expand my perspective and study more domestic/international albums to prevent such events from occurring again in the future.

I hope that this issue does not damage the relationship between the fans of the two groups and I will return with albums with better concepts. Thank you.”
