Eric Nam Shares Why He Originally Couldn’t Pursue Music In The United States

He had no choice.

In an interview with MTV News, Eric Nam revealed why he had no choice but to pursue music in South Korea.

People would often ask him why he moved to South Korea to pursue music instead of trying his luck in the United States, and he would tell them that he had no choice.

Quite simply, at that time, Asian-Americans lacked the opportunity to succeed.

When Asian-Americans aren’t represented here and we don’t have the opportunity, but you still want to pursue the arts, what are you going to do? You’re going to go where you are accepted.

– Eric Nam

Having accomplished everything he could in Korea, he decided it was the right time to move back to the United States and release his first English album, Before We Begin.

He credits the global success of BTS and BLACKPINK for helping alter the music climate in the United States. Currently, his goal is “to be able to do stuff back home, back in the States”.

Eric Nam was born and raised in the United States, but he moved to South Korea and signed a contract under B2M Entertainment as a solo artist. He made his official debut on January 23, 2013 with the song “Heaven’s Door”.
