BTS’s RM Went From Visiting The Met To Speaking There In Just Two Years

He hopes to visit again!

BTS‘s RM is a testament to Drake‘s iconic lyrics, “Started from the bottom, and now we’re here.”

We know BTS truly came from nothing and have grown a lot. So much has changed over the years.

Just two years ago, though they were still quite popular then too, leader RM was able to visit the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art) and even take a photo amongst the crowd outside (it is New York City, after all).

As an art-lover and someone who enjoys visiting museums, this was a great trip for RM. He truly appreciates every kind of art.

After BTS’s speech at the 76th United Nations General Assembly, he revisited the Met. This time, it was for a different reason.

Monday was very busy for the group! In the evening, after their UN address, RM visited the Met with his members and South Korea’s first lady Kim Jung Sook, wife of President Moon Jae In. They were there for much more than just a casual visit.

“BTS with Korean First Lady Kim Jung Sook, culture minister Hwang Hee, Met director Max Hollein, the museum’s president and CEO Dan Weiss, Mike Hearn, the Chairman of the Asian Art Department, and NYC’s Commissioner for International Affairs, Penny Abeywardena.”

They went to present a gift set of five colorful lacquerware vessels by Chung Haecho from the South Korean government to the Met. As BTS is a group that takes pride in spreading Korean culture worldwide, they were an excellent choice to help present the gift.

RM also spoke at the Met along with the presentation, sharing his appreciation for art. He said that it was an honor to speak at the Met, mentioning how he had visited there just two years prior to this speech. He was also excited to do it next to an art piece he loves, Alex Da Corte’s bird mobile.

The eyes of the world are on Korean culture—Korean dramas, Korean film, Korean music—but there are still many great Korean artists who are yet to be discovered by the world.

Just last week, fans wondered why BTS were missing out on attending the 2021 Met Gala, some even making their own edits of the members attending instead. At the time, the members were preparing for their Special Presidential Envoy For Future Generations and Culture appointment.

While RM has visited the Met before, he is hoping for another visit again. After speaking there, he shared that he wants to revisit to look at all of his favorite artists.

There are many artworks I love personally in the Met, I want to come to here again as a person, Kim Namjoon.
