BLACKPINK’s Rosé Becomes The 1st Female Korean Soloist To Enter The UK Singles Chart

Rosé in UK BLINKs’ area! 🇬🇧🏆

After incredible sales and charting in South Korea, BLACKPINK Rosé‘s solo debut is now taking over the UK too.

Shortly after release, Rosé managed to peak at #2 on the UK iTunes Chart, which is no easy feat. The song became the joint highest-peaking BLACKPINK song without a feature on iTunes, matching “How You Like That”. Of course, while taking over UK iTunes isn’t easy, taking over the UK Singles Chart is even more difficult.

Commonly known as the UK Top 40, the UK Singles Chart ranks the biggest songs every week based on physical sales, paid downloads, and streams across multiple platforms. Few K-Pop groups have managed to make it onto the chart, with BLACKPINK first achieving the feat when “DDU-DU DDU-DU” peaked at no.78 in 2018. Now, Rosé’s broken the barrier as a soloist too.

This week, “On the Ground” debuted at no.43 on the UK Singles Chart, making Rosé the first female Korean soloist to ever reach a spot on the ranking!

On top of being the first female soloist to make it onto the chart, Rosé is also the third highest-charting Korean soloist overall. “On the Ground” sits just behind PSY’s “Gentleman” (which peaked at no.10) and “Gangnam Style” (which made it to no.1).

And that’s not all. “On the Ground” is the highest-debuting Korean soloist song on the UK Singles Chart too. “Gentleman” first debuted on the chart at no.61, while “Gangnam Style” took several weeks to climb up the ranking.

Alongside its chart success, “On the Ground” was also named BBC Radio 1‘s “Tune of the Weekend” and made it on to the MTV UK “HITS Playlist”. Here’s hoping Rosé gets to visit UK BLINKS and repay the love soon!
