BLACKPINK’s “The Album” Broke Record First Week Sales For A K-Pop Girl Group

BLACKPINK keeps breaking records all the time.

BLACKPINK‘s debut full-length studio album The Album was extremely anticipated from the moment it was announced, with fans of the group elated over what they felt had been a long time coming. Since it’s been over 4 years since the group debuted, most people felt like a full studio album was long overdue!

The album dropped on October 2 in Korea, and on October 7, YG Entertainment announced some of the sales results based on Hanteo‘s charts. And the data was nothing short of record-breaking!

The chart showed that The Album made about 590,000 sales in its first day after release, which is now the highest amount of sales for an album made in that short of a period of time. Before, IZ*ONE had held the record for their album Oneiric Diary, which sold about 390,000 copies in its first week.

YG Entertainment also made note that this wasn’t even including the albums being shipped to the United States or Europe, so the actual number of sales is likely much higher.

The Album had already broken records even before it was released when stock pre-orders surpassed 1 million total units, making BLACKPINK the only K-Pop girl group to have more than 1 million stock pre-orders.

Since these pre-orders are the album stock produced prior to the album’s release based on pre-ordered sales, this just shows how anticipated this album was!
