5 K-Pop Albums And 6 K-Pop Songs Earned New Platinum Awards From Gaon This Week, With One Artist Breaking A New Record

Congratulations to everyone!

Since January of 2018, the Korea Music Content Industry Association started implementing a new certification system in order to reward albums and songs for reaching a certain amount of sales, downloads, and streams. Because of this, in order for a K-Pop album to be certified as platinum on the Gaon Chart, it must reach 250,000 sales. For songs, they are also able to be certified as platinum once they reach 100 million streams or 2.5 million downloads.

This week, several new artists have added new platinum certifications to their records, with one idol in particular breaking a new record!

Three K-Pop groups got a new platinum certification for their albums, adding to ones that they’ve already reached this milestone for in the past. The first is NCT 127‘s repackaged album, Neo Zone: The Final Round, which was released in May. MONSTA X also gained a new platinum certification for an album with FANTASIA X, and IZ*ONE‘s COLOR*IZ album also sold over 250,000 copies, earning them this certificate.

TXT earned their first platinum certification for an album for The Dream Chapter: ETERNITY, which came out in May and includes their latest single, “Can’t You See Me”.

As for the record breaker, that title goes to none other than EXO‘s Baekhyun! The soloist has reached not single, or double, but triple platinum on his album Delight, after it reached over 750,000 sales total! This makes him the first solo artist to ever get triple platinum on an album!

Several songs also reached platinum this week. They include Taeyeon‘s “A Poem Called You”, Lim Hanbyul‘s “The Way to Say Goodbye”, IU‘s “Love Poem”, Zico‘s “Any Song”, and Woody‘s “Fire Up”, all of which received this certification for reaching 100 million streams. Anne-Marie received a double platinum for her song “2002” after it reached 200 million total streams!

Congratulations to all the artists with new certifications!
