What 5 Second Generation Girl Groups Totally Deserve A Chart Revival?

Internet users speculate who deserves another shot at the spotlight.

It’s not unheard of for a song to finally get its big break long after it was released, and no group knows this better than Brave Girls. Early last year, an online video compilation suddenly shot their 2017 song “Rollin'” to the top of the charts for weeks, earning them their first music show win along with a host of end-of-year awards.

Now that K-Pop fans know it’s a possibility, they’re wondering which groups deserve the same Cinderella sweep up the charts Brave Girls had, and what songs deserve the glory. In a recent Reddit post, several fans weighed in with their picks.

1. Dalshabet

Girl group Dalshabet (also known as Dal Shabet) were active from 2011 to 2016, but more recently got together for a reunion in 2019. In particular, “Someone like U” seems to be a favorite to retake the charts. Though its chart performance was less than stellar on its initial release in 2016, the retro vibe of the song seems like a perfect fit for the current K-Pop scene.

2. 9Muses

Active from 2010 to 2019, 9Muses (also known as Nine Muses) are another popular choice. Among their songs, fans would most like to see 2015 tune “Drama” climb back up the charts. With a fresh yet funky sound that you can’t help but dance to, this also seems like a no-brainer.

3. SPICA

SPICA is another popular choice. After their disbandment in 2016, they reunited once in 2019. Among their many songs, their final title track “Secret Time” seems like it would make a perfect addition to today’s music scene.

4. BESTie

Though their career as a group spanned only three years, from 2013 to 2016, there are many who believe BESTie deserve another chance on the charts. Their 2013 song “Love Options” hardly sounds like it came out over 8 years ago, and might just do great things.

5. Ladies’ Code

Another popular pick is Ladies’ Code. Though not formally disbanded, the group has been on hiatus since 2020, following the expiration of their contracts with Polaris Entertainment in 2020. A chart resurgence of their underrated 2014 bop “Kiss Kiss” may be just the thing that gets them back together again.

Though there are many groups who fans would love to see overtake the charts, these five definitely have a lot of supporters. With any luck, they may get just that!

A previous version of this article stated Ladies’ Code had been on hiatus since 2017. The group has actually been on hiatus since 2020.
