The Villains Who Could Have Inspired BTS’s “Season’s Greetings 2022”

Villains from comics, classics, and more.

The theme of this year’s Season’s Greetings DVD package is “Star Turned Villain.” In BTS‘s first video teaser, each member portrays a different type of villain. Here’s who they might have been inspired by!

1. RM – Mad Scientist

In the video, RM experiments with chemicals and writes formulas on a chalkboard.

It’s possible that RM’s concept was inspired by one of the most famous mad scientists in classic literature: Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Dr. Frankenstein pushed the boundaries of ethics and human nature to create the Creature colloquially known as Frankenstein.

2. Jin – Shadow Hacker

For decades, hackers have been portrayed in film, comics, and television in shades of gray. Some are heroes, others are villains.

Earlier this year, for instance, Korea released a new movie called Twenty Hacker. In it, a club of hero hackers, led by the genius hacker HEX, faces off with a team of villainous hackers.

3. Suga – Gray Pianist

Once again, Suga has been reunited with his “First Love,” the piano! His title, “Gray Pianist,” and dialogue about good vs bad music suggest that he is a morally gray villain, who could be inspired by the “tortured artist” archetype.

Some fans have also compared Suga’s character to Dorian Gray, the titular character from The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. In one film adaptation, the eternally young Dorian plays piano.

4. J-Hope – Mystic Strategist

Walk the plank? Aye aye, captain! J-Hope’s piratical character could have been inspired by a number of pirates.

One is the villainous Captain Hook from Peter Pan. He is obsessed with tracking down the ticking crocodile who swallowed a clock (and his hand).

The other is the anti-hero Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. J-Hope’s outfit certainly does resemble Captain Jack’s!

5. Jimin – Alley Cat

Villain Jimin likes pretty and shiny things, such as a trunk full of gold — and you.

6. V – Fate Reader

Fortune tellers have long been portrayed as mystical tricksters who can play for the side of good or evil when it suits them.

Rather than portraying a specific “fate reader,” V could be paying homage to the archetype itself, or continuing BTS’s own lore that began in “FAKE LOVE” MV…

7. Jungkook – Action-taker

Jungkook’s “villain” isn’t all that different than the star we know and love. Like the real Jungkook, this “Action-taker” is a daredevil boxer who isn’t afraid to take risks.

As fans have pointed out, the Action-taker looks like he stepped out of a video game. His outfit and motorcycle wouldn’t look out of place in a game like Final Fantasy
