6 K-Pop Songs We Incorrectly Think Another Group Sang

What other songs do you attribute to another artist?

Because K-Pop helms from the same genres of pop, hip hop, R&B, and more, it is not uncommon to listen to a song and think another group sang it. Sometimes a song goes on shuffle in our playlist and we incorrectly assume it belongs to an artist with a similar style.

With that said, check out the following songs that you may not know belongs to the original singer!

1. “FLASH” by X1

“Flash” was X1‘s debut song but it sounds like it could have made it to a WANNA ONE album. The heavy beats and melody are similar to the senior group’s sound. As they are both winning groups from Produce it is no surprise that they have similar styles. In fact, the opening beats of “FLASH” could almost fit right in to “Energetic”.

2. Boss by NCT U

Sometimes fans forget that NCT 127 did not sing “Boss”. It’s not surprising as NCT U is a revolving unit group. Some members who sang “Boss” such as Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, WinwinJungwoo, and Mark, all belong to NCT 127, with Lucas being the exception.

3. “Airplane” by IZ*ONE

Maybe it’s because they have similar fresh images, or maybe it’s because they both came from survival shows, but sometimes the songs of IZ*ONE and fromis_9 sound alike. A fan-made video layered “Airplane” on top of a fromis_9 dance practice, and confusion was born.

4. “Dance the Night Away” by TWICE

TWICE‘s 2018 hit “Dance the Night Away” came two years after Tiffany‘s solo debut “I Just Wanna Dance”. Their similar titles make it no surprise why the songs are associated with each other in people’s heads.

5. “Starry Night” by MAMAMOO

The cool melodies of MAMAMOO‘s “Starry Night” and LOONA‘s Olivia Hye‘s “Egoist” make the songs alike in many fan’s heads. Not only do both groups have girl crush concepts, but their tracks have catchy and modern tones and strong rap parts.

6. “Lights” by BTS

Finally BTS‘s 2019 song “Lights” is somewhat reminiscent of SHINee‘s own set list. Like the senior group’s title track, “Countless”, BTS’s “Lights” has a sentimental undertone that fans love.
